Hubballi Groups Plan Campaign Against Electoral Roll Revision

Hubballi: Citizen for Democracy (CFD) and Janadolana Maha Maitri have planned a systematic campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. They held discussions with like-minded individuals and organisations to launch a protest against the process, with a virtual meeting scheduled on June 6.

Allegations Against Election Commission

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, SR Hiremath of the CFD said the state elections in Bihar and West Bengal showed what he believed was a planned and coordinated effort between the current Union government and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He sought Gyanesh Kumar's resignation for the way he conducted the SIR process to date.

Hiremath criticised the use of terms like 'logical discrepancies' during the West Bengal election process and the rapid implementation of the controversial SIR exercise in Bihar and West Bengal just before the state elections. According to him, these actions raised serious concerns about the conduct of the elections.

Supreme Court Judgment

He expressed disappointment about the recent Supreme Court judgment, which upheld the SIR process being conducted by the Election Commission of India. However, he welcomed the part of the judgment recognising the right to vote as a constitutional right.

NEET Question Paper Leak

On the NEET question paper leak and discrepancies seen in CBSE, Hiremath sought the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing him of playing with the future of lakhs of students. He alleged that the ministry led to creating a mess of irregularities, illegalities, and criminalities, which would have the most adverse impact on the future of millions.
