The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rainfall across 19 states in the coming days, offering much-needed relief from the scorching heatwave that has gripped large parts of the country. The IMD stated that the rainfall activity is likely to commence from May 31 onwards, with several states expected to witness heavy downpours.
States to Receive Rainfall
According to the IMD, the states that are likely to experience rainfall include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. The intensity of the rainfall will vary, with some regions expected to receive heavy showers while others may experience light to moderate precipitation.
Heatwave Relief
The ongoing heatwave has caused temperatures to soar above 45 degrees Celsius in several parts of the country, leading to health advisories and increased demand for electricity. The IMD has assured that the predicted rainfall will bring down temperatures significantly, providing relief to millions of people. The maximum temperatures are expected to drop by 4-6 degrees Celsius in the affected regions.
Monsoon Update
The IMD has also provided an update on the southwest monsoon, which is expected to advance further into the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is likely to cover more areas in the coming days, facilitating the rainfall activity. The weather office has advised farmers to prepare for the monsoon season and take necessary precautions.
Precautions and Advisories
The IMD has issued advisories for residents in the rainfall-affected areas to stay indoors during heavy downpours and avoid traveling unless necessary. It has also warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas and advised people to keep emergency supplies handy. The meteorological department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
This forecast comes as a welcome change for many who have been enduring extreme heat conditions. The IMD has urged people to stay tuned for further updates and follow safety guidelines during the rainfall period.
