INDIA Bloc Condemns Central Government's Silence on Manipur Child Deaths
The INDIA bloc in Manipur has launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, questioning their continued silence regarding the recent tragic killing of two children in a bomb attack in the state. The political alliance has accused the central government of treating the people of Manipur as if they are not citizens of India, highlighting a perceived neglect in the ongoing conflict.
Delegation Visits Bereaved Family in Bishnupur
A delegation from the INDIA bloc, led by Congress leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, visited Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district on Monday to express solidarity and share the grief with the family of the victims. The two children, including an infant, lost their lives in the bomb attack that occurred last week, sparking widespread outrage and protests across the region.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, Meghachandra Singh did not mince words in his criticism. He pointed to what he described as grave lapses in security intelligence since May 3, 2023, holding both the state and central governments accountable for the persistent violence and civilian casualties in Manipur.
Demands for Accountability and Justice
Meghachandra Singh emphasized that the INDIA bloc and the people of Manipur are demanding answers. They want to know why Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah have not issued any formal condemnation or expressed condolences over the deaths of the innocent children. He asserted that this silence is unacceptable and reflects a broader disregard for the suffering in the state.
The Congress leader insisted that both governments must bear responsibility for the continued loss of civilian lives. He called for immediate justice for the victims, stressing that delays in addressing such atrocities only deepen the wounds of the affected communities.
Call for Judicial Inquiry into Civilian Deaths
In addition to condemning the bomb attack, Meghachandra Singh demanded a judicial enquiry into the killing of three civilians during protests that erupted following the incident. These deaths occurred in firing by security forces, raising further concerns about the handling of the situation and the protection of human rights in Manipur.
The INDIA bloc's statements underscore growing frustration with the central government's approach to the Manipur crisis, with leaders arguing that the lack of high-level intervention and empathy exacerbates the sense of alienation among the local population. The alliance vows to continue pressing for transparency, accountability, and swift action to prevent further tragedies in the violence-ridden state.
