Rajasthan Man's Instagram Chat with Pakistani Handler Exposes Deadly Terror Plot

The Hanumangarh Police in Rajasthan have taken swift action by registering a case against a young man after uncovering his contact with a Pakistani terrorist via Instagram. This alarming discovery has exposed a broader, deadly conspiracy that spans multiple Indian states.

Instagram Contact and Weapon Photos Shared

According to police reports, the accused, identified as Jaswant Kumar Sonu from Kishanpura village, established contact with Pakistani terrorist Shahzad Bhatti on Instagram. Using his own account, Sonu contacted Bhatti twice, sending his mobile number along with a message stating, "Brother, get in touch; I have some urgent business." Furthermore, Sonu publicly displayed photographs of weapons on his Instagram account, which had originally been posted on Bhatti's ID.

Inspector Ashok Bishnoi filed a report late last night, leading to the registration of a case under Section 152 of the BNS against both Shahzad Bhatti and Jaswant Kumar Sonu. The police have emphasized the gravity of this digital communication, highlighting how social media platforms are being exploited for nefarious activities.

Link to Foiled Ambala Terror Conspiracy

This case is directly connected to a major terrorist conspiracy that was recently thwarted in Ambala district, Haryana. The Special Task Force (STF) arrested three youths on the Barara road in Ambala, seizing approximately two kilograms of RDX, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), detonators, and batteries. During interrogation, the connection of these three youths to Hanumangarh was revealed.

Investigative agencies disclosed that, acting on Bhatti's instructions, the accused had initially planned to execute a bomb blast in Hanumangarh. Preparations for this explosion were underway between February 28 and March 3. One of the accused, Akbar from Ajmer, who worked as a tempo driver, confessed during interrogation that the IED had even been transported to an undisclosed location within Hanumangarh. However, the plan was called off due to a technical snag.

Reconnaissance Across Sensitive Locations

The interrogation further revealed that the accused had conducted reconnaissance of several sensitive locations across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh. This indicates a widespread and coordinated effort to target key areas, raising serious national security concerns. When the Hanumangarh plan failed, the epicenter of the conspiracy shifted to Ambala, where the STF successfully intervened.

From the three accused in Ambala, the STF recovered four mobile phones containing concrete evidence of their contact with handlers based in Pakistan. This digital trail has provided crucial insights into the network's operations and intentions.

Ongoing Investigations and Future Steps

The Hanumangarh Police are now planning to bring the three youths from Ambala on a production warrant for further interrogation. This move aims to uncover more details about the plot, including potential accomplices and future targets. The case underscores the persistent threat of cross-border terrorism and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and cybersecurity measures.

Authorities are urging the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that such plots rely on secrecy and can be disrupted through community cooperation and advanced surveillance techniques.
