Jagan Accuses Govt of Blocking YSRCP Facebook Page

Vijayawada: Expressing serious anguish over the alleged restriction on the party’s social media handles, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the state government of attempting to suppress the voice of the opposition by restricting access to the party’s official social media platforms.

In a post on social media platform X, Jagan claimed that after the removal of the party’s official Instagram handle earlier this year, the official YSRCP Facebook page has now become inaccessible in India. He alleged that the move was an attack not only on YSRCP but also on democratic values and freedom of expression.

Jagan said the party used its official platforms only to highlight public issues, question government decisions and bring alleged failures and irregularities to the attention of people. He alleged that restricting the opposition party’s digital platforms would set a “dangerous precedent” and weaken democratic debate.

The YSRCP chief alleged that a pattern was emerging with cases being filed against those questioning the government on issues including expenditure related to Amaravati capital development, alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process, TTD ghee tenders and other matters of public importance. Jagan demanded immediate restoration of the official YSRCP Facebook page, stating that the action was necessary to uphold democratic values and constitutional spirit.

The YSRCP Facebook page has about 2 million followers, making it one of the biggest social media handles of political parties in India. Similarly, the YSRCP Instagram handle has about 3.7 lakh followers, while YS Jagan enjoys considerable following among the youth.
