Jaipur residents protest water shortage for 7 days

Jaipur: As the city continues to battle rising temperatures, residents in several colonies of Kho Nagoriyan have been grappling with a severe water shortage for the past seven days. Taps in many homes have either run dry or are providing only a poor supply, forcing families to depend on private water tankers for their daily needs.

Protest Outside PHED Office

Angry over the prolonged disruption, residents staged a protest on Sunday outside the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) office in the area. People from colonies including Mohammad Nagar, Madina Nagar, and Gandhi Vihar participated in the demonstration and accused officials of ignoring repeated complaints.

Water Supply Disruption

Residents stated that the affected areas receive water through the Bisalpur pipeline network, but the supply has remained extremely low for the last week. In several localities, water has not reached households at all.

Local resident Salim Umrideen said people were arranging tankers on their own as officials were not responding to their concerns. “We have been suffering for days. We are spending money on tankers, but nobody is listening to us,” he said. Another resident, Akbar, noted that the situation worsens every summer despite people regularly paying water bills. “In this heat, surviving without proper water supply is becoming difficult. Every year we face the same issue,” he added.

Former Councillor's Involvement

Former councillor Chhotu Ram Meena, who also joined the protest, said residents had been complaining continuously for several days, leading to the protest outside the PHED office. He mentioned that assistant engineer Abhay Singh Meena later met the protesters and assured them that the issue would be resolved within seven days.

Official Response

Assistant engineer Abhay Singh Meena explained that the extreme heat had reduced water pressure and flow in several areas, affecting supply. He said efforts were being made to restore normal supply within a week.
