In a significant crackdown on illegal gambling activities, the Jhansi district police, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG), conducted a successful raid on Tuesday night. The operation resulted in the apprehension of 13 individuals allegedly involved in betting, with law enforcement officials seizing a substantial amount of cash and other items.
Details of the Raid
Acting on a specific tip-off, the police team swiftly surrounded the location where the gamblers were reportedly engaged in betting activities. The accused were caught red-handed, and the authorities confiscated Rs 5.63 lakh in cash, along with half a dozen vehicles and 15 mobile phones. All the seized items were taken into custody as evidence.
Arrested Individuals
The arrested persons have been identified as Devesh Pratap alias Vicky Gurjar, Kuldeep Sahu, Jafar, Harimohan Rajput, Rajkumar, Shahid Khan, Akash, Mohit, Pradyuman Yadav, Rahish Ahmad, Rajnath Singh, Abhay Pratap alias Ashish Gurjar, and Anand Shukla. According to police reports, the accused had traveled from various locations, including Jhansi, Jalaun, and Datia in Madhya Pradesh, to participate in the gambling ring. Some individuals also hailed from neighboring districts of Madhya Pradesh.
Legal Proceedings
On Wednesday, all the accused were sent to jail on judicial remand. Circle officer (Moth) Ajay Shrotiya confirmed that a case has been registered against all the accused under Sections 3 and 4 of the Gambling Act at Samthar police station. Additionally, the seized vehicles have been impounded under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The police have vowed to continue their efforts to curb illegal gambling activities in the region. This operation highlights the effectiveness of joint task forces in tackling such unlawful practices.
