Jharkhand Assistant Police Seek Service Extension, Meet Finance Minister

A delegation representing assistant police personnel deployed in extremist-affected areas of Jharkhand submitted a memorandum to State Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore on Monday, urging the government to extend their services as their one-year contracts are scheduled to end by August. The delegation, under the banner of the Jharkhand Sahayak Police Pradesh Association (JSPPA), highlighted that the state government had appointed 2,500 assistant police on a contract basis in 2017, with their contracts renewed annually in July and August.

JSPPA General Secretary Vivekanand Gupta stated, “The delegation requested the minister to ensure a timely service extension so that the assistant police may not be discharged from duty. In 2025, some police were removed for two months. We protested in Ranchi in 2019, 2020, and 2024 for extension of services.” The association also raised other demands, including regularisation of service, minimum wage at par with fourth-grade employees, dearness allowance, and increment.

The minister assured the delegation that the government would look into the issue and take an appropriate decision soon. The assistant police play a crucial role in maintaining security in Naxal-affected districts, and any delay in contract renewal could disrupt operations.
