The 77th Republic Day was commemorated with immense patriotic zeal and fervour throughout Kanpur on Sunday, as the city came alive with the spirit of national pride. The Indian Tricolour was proudly unfurled at numerous government offices, educational institutions, and various establishments, marking the occasion with solemn ceremonies and vibrant cultural programmes that highlighted the nation's democratic ethos.
Official Ceremonies and Constitutional Emphasis
Divisional Commissioner K Vijayendra Pandian hoisted the national flag at his office, extending warm greetings to all participants. In his address to officials, he underscored the critical need to discharge duties with unwavering honesty and integrity, strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. He emphasized that every responsibility entrusted to officials must be executed with devotion while upholding the dignity of their respective positions, reinforcing the core values of public service.
District Magistrate Jitendra Prasad Singh unfurled the Tricolour at the Kanpur Collectorate, in the presence of district officials and employees. A solemn pledge was taken to act with honesty and integrity as enshrined in the Constitution, symbolizing a collective commitment to governance. The DM also honoured the kin of freedom fighters, paying tribute to their sacrifices for the nation's independence.
Widespread Celebrations Across Key Institutions
The district judge of Kanpur Nagar hoisted the national flag at the court premises, while similar ceremonies were held at the Kanpur Development Authority. There, Vice-Chairman Madan Singh Garbyal unfurled the flag, and at the Kanpur Municipal Corporation, Mayor Pramila Pandey hoisted the Tricolour in the presence of officials and staff, showcasing widespread participation.
Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi' unfurled the national flag at the Police Lines, where police personnel presented a guard of honour and saluted the Tricolour with gunfire. The minister urged police officials to adhere to constitutional values and perform their duties with honesty, also felicitating police personnel who received the President's medal, as well as gold and silver medals for meritorious service.
Educational and Corporate Tributes
At Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Vice-Chancellor Prof Vinay Pathak hoisted the national flag, which was unfurled using a drone at the administrative building, adding a modern touch to the celebrations. Students presented a tableau on the theme of ‘Operation Sindoor', dressed as Army personnel and displaying replicas of missiles, highlighting national defence and patriotism.
The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kanpur, celebrated Republic Day with great enthusiasm. The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag by IIT-Kanpur Director Prof Manindra Agrawal, followed by a parade and Guard of Honour that symbolised discipline, unity, and respect for the country's democratic values.
At Gliders India Ltd headquarters on GT Road, Chairman and Managing Director M C Balasubramaniam hoisted the national flag, emphasizing that for national progress, everyone should perform their duties with dedication and unity, reflecting the corporate sector's role in nation-building.
