NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message thanking US President Donald Trump for his wishes, asserting that India's sovereignty, dignity, and national interest should remain paramount in its dealings with foreign nations.
Kejriwal's Remarks
Reacting to a post by Modi on X (formerly Twitter) in which he thanked Trump for congratulating him, Kejriwal asked what exactly the prime minister was expressing gratitude for. He referred to incidents involving attacks on ships carrying Indians and the deaths of Indian nationals, implying that the gratitude was misplaced.
Concerns Over National Interest
The former Delhi chief minister said the situation was becoming embarrassing for the country. He alleged that the prime minister had failed to firmly protect India's interests in its engagement with the United States. Kejriwal emphasized that India must not compromise its sovereignty in diplomatic exchanges.
Kejriwal's comments come amid ongoing discussions about India-US relations, with critics arguing that the government should take a stronger stance on issues affecting Indian citizens abroad. The AAP leader's remarks have sparked debate on social media, with supporters and opponents weighing in on the appropriateness of Modi's message.
