Kerala Minister Warns VCs on Political Event Attendance

Kochi: Higher education minister Roji M John has stated that vice-chancellors (VCs) must refrain from participating in programmes organized by political organizations. He described the recent attendance of three state university VCs at an RSS event as unacceptable. The minister also noted that while the state government has legal limitations in taking disciplinary action against VCs, it will examine the legal aspects of the incident. He made these remarks while addressing the media on Sunday.

VCs Attended RSS Centenary Event

On June 13, KUHS VC Mohanan Kunnummal, MG University VC-in-charge D Mavoothu, and Malayalam University VC CR Prasad attended an event held as part of the RSS's centenary celebrations.

Minister's Stance on Impartiality

John emphasized that vice-chancellors should be symbols of impartiality in the academic and administrative activities of universities. He stated, "It is a position held in high regard by the public. VC participation in RSS events or programmes organized by political or religious organizations is unacceptable. The state government is of the view that VCs should not participate in such events."

Government's Limitations and Legal Review
