Kharge Slams Modi as Propagandist After Second Fuel Price Hike
Kharge Calls Modi Propagandist After Fuel Price Hike

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, labeling him a 'propagandist' after the government announced a second fuel price hike within a week. Speaking to reporters, Kharge accused the Modi administration of prioritizing political messaging over the welfare of the common people.

Sharp Criticism Over Fuel Prices

Kharge's remarks came shortly after state-owned oil marketing companies increased petrol and diesel prices by 80 paise per liter each, marking the second hike in five days. The Congress chief said, 'Modi ji calls himself a leader, but he is merely a propagandist. While he talks about development, the common man is burdened with rising fuel prices.' He further alleged that the government is using state machinery to divert attention from economic distress.

Impact on Common Citizens

Kharge highlighted that the consecutive fuel price hikes would exacerbate inflation, affecting transportation costs and daily essentials. 'Every hike in fuel prices pushes families into deeper financial trouble. The government must roll back these increases immediately,' he demanded. He also questioned the timing of the hikes, suggesting they were intended to fund the government's 'image-building exercises.'

Political Reactions

The Congress chief's attack comes amid a broader political tussle over economic policies. Several opposition parties have criticized the fuel price revisions, calling them an additional burden on citizens already grappling with high unemployment and stagnant wages. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, defended the hikes, citing global crude oil price fluctuations and the need to reduce subsidies.

In a statement, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused Kharge of spreading negativity and ignoring the government's long-term economic reforms. 'The Congress party has no constructive agenda. They only know how to criticize,' Patra said.

Fuel Price Trend

On Tuesday, petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 80 paise per liter each across major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. This follows a 90-paise increase last week. The cumulative hike has pushed petrol prices above Rs 106 per liter in some cities, while diesel has crossed Rs 96 per liter. Analysts predict further increases if global crude prices remain elevated.

Kharge concluded by urging the Prime Minister to focus on governance rather than propaganda. 'The country needs solutions, not slogans. Stop misleading the public and start addressing their real problems,' he said.
