Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge unleashed a fierce dual-pronged assault on both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central administration during a high-energy election rally. The public gathering, organized at Elappara to bolster support for United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Syriac Thomas in the Peermade constituency, served as a platform for Kharge to articulate a comprehensive critique of contemporary governance failures.
Financial Crisis and Governance Failures Highlighted
Kharge expressed profound alarm regarding Kerala's escalating financial predicament, directly attributing the state's soaring debt levels to systemic governance deficiencies. He emphasized that the abrupt deterioration of social security initiatives is precipitating a climate of instability and insecurity across Kerala. Furthermore, Kharge pointed to the severe crisis engulfing the education sector, which he argued is compelling a significant exodus of young people seeking employment opportunities overseas due to inadequate local prospects.
Allegations of a Covert LDF-BJP Alliance
In a striking accusation, Kharge contended that a clandestine understanding exists between the BJP and the LDF, strategically engineered to undermine and weaken the Congress party's influence. He provocatively characterized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the "Narendra Modi of Kerala", asserting that both leaders represent "two sides of the same coin" in their concerted efforts to centralize authority and power. Kharge alleged that while the BJP pursues divisive communal politics at the national level, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM is executing a parallel agenda within Kerala, thereby disturbing the state's traditionally harmonious social atmosphere.
Criticism of Legal Amendments and Electoral Promises
Addressing recent amendments to Waqf laws, Kharge warned that such legislative changes are generating apprehension even within the Christian community, who fear potential erosion of their rights. He described these amendments not as genuine reforms but as intrusive overreaches that compromise the fundamental rights of the general populace. Concurrently, Kharge outlined a series of pivotal commitments from the UDF, targeting key voter demographics including plantation workers and farmers. These pledges encompass elevating the rubber support price to Rs 300, granting formal land titles to eligible beneficiaries, devising a permanent resolution to human-wildlife conflicts, and enhancing healthcare infrastructure for ordinary citizens.

Kharge dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge of generating two crore jobs annually as a "major deception", contrasting it with what he claimed was India's peak economic growth phase under the leadership of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
