A tragic incident occurred in Lucknow on Thursday morning when a portion of an under-construction commercial building collapsed in the Vibhuti Khand area, resulting in the death of a labourer and injuries to another. The collapse triggered a multi-agency rescue operation involving local police, fire services, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel.

Details of the Incident

The collapse took place around 10 am near the NTPC building on IGP Road, falling under the jurisdiction of Vibhuti Khand police station. According to police officials, the incident occurred during basement excavation work when loose soil and construction material caved in, trapping workers beneath the debris.

Rescue Operation

Upon receiving information about the collapse, local police teams, along with fire services and SDRF personnel, rushed to the spot and launched an intensive rescue operation. Two workers trapped under the debris were pulled out and immediately taken to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.

Doctors declared one of the workers, identified as Laxmi Shankar Awasthi (36), a resident of Amauli Kiratpur village in Barabanki district, dead on arrival. The second worker, identified as Tulsiram from Bhikam Patti village in Barabanki, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after receiving primary treatment.

Officials noted that a significant amount of debris had accumulated at the site. Rescuers, including fellow labourers, used shovels to clear the soil and reach the trapped workers. The situation was brought under control after the rescue operation concluded.

Investigation and Aftermath

Police have informed the deceased’s family about the incident, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities confirmed that the situation is now under control, and a further investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway. The incident highlights the risks associated with construction work and the importance of safety measures at building sites.
