The Odisha Congress chief, Bhakta Charan Das, recently held a public rally in Bhubaneswar at the IDCO Exhibition Ground. Despite extensive poster campaigns across the city days before the event, the crowd turnout was notably sparse. This prompted swift reactions on social media, with users humorously pointing out the lack of attendance. One user quipped, 'Congress Odisha chief Bhakta Charan Das's Bhubaneswar rally had so little public presence, even the empty chairs looked uncomfortable.' The incident highlights the challenges faced by the party in mobilizing supporters in the state capital.
Challan Challenge Leads to Action
In a separate incident, a social media user posted a photograph of a policeman in uniform riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. The complainant tagged Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, the commissionerate police, and the state transport authority, urging them to take action. The post challenged officers to issue a challan to the policeman. Within four hours, the Regional Transport Office in Cuttack responded by posting a photo of a challan receipt issued to the officer for violating traffic rules. This swift response was widely appreciated and showcased the effectiveness of social media in holding authorities accountable.
Fuel Conservation Movement Gains Momentum
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to reduce fuel consumption, followed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi trimming his convoy size, has sparked a wave of energy conservation awareness. Citizens have been inspired to embrace sustainable practices, with many rediscovering their bicycles and adopting carpooling. Social media platforms are abuzz with posts showcasing these transformations. One user shared on X, 'Inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi towards sustainable mobility and energy conservation, we adopted carpooling and travelled to office in an EV today.' This movement reflects a growing environmental consciousness among the public.
Oil Hoarding Backfires
Last week, panic buying of edible oil gripped Cuttack as residents feared a sharp price hike amid supply concerns. Many rushed to grocery stores and the wholesale market at Malgodown, with some reportedly stocking enough oil to last months. However, fresh supplies arrived on Saturday, stabilizing the market and causing prices to fall. This left hoarders at a loss, as demand slowed significantly and consumers stayed away. Traders noted that the market has now stabilized, with prices dropping and buying activity returning to normal levels.
