Tragic Fire in Lucknow Claims School Director's Life During Daughter's Farewell
Laughter and farewell preparations filled a home in Lucknow's Indiranagar area just hours before tragedy struck. The house now stands silent, marked by smoke, ash, and an enduring grief that will never fade away.
Cheerful New Year Post Precedes Tragedy
Nida Rizvi, a 45-year-old director of a private school, recently shared a cheerful New Year reel with her daughter on social media. Just days later, she died in a devastating fire at her residence near Neelgiri Crossing. The incident occurred on Monday evening, turning a family celebration into a nightmare.
Family Preparations Turn Deadly
The Rizvi family had been celebrating for a week as they prepared for their daughter Zara's departure. Zara, a first-year MBBS student in the United States, was scheduled to fly back the same evening. Nida Rizvi lived in the house with her husband Syed Ammar Rizvi (52), daughter Zara, and son Zorahan.
According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, Rizvi lit a candle in a first-floor prayer room as part of a traditional ritual. The family believed this would ward off the evil eye before their daughter's journey. This simple act triggered the catastrophe.
Candle Ignites Rapid Blaze
The candle reportedly fell onto a carpet, immediately starting a fire. Flames spread quickly through the room due to the presence of wooden furniture and heavy furnishings. Within moments, dense smoke engulfed the entire house and staircases, cutting off all escape routes.
As the fire intensified, Rizvi rushed to the terrace in a desperate attempt to save herself. She stood on a wooden frame structure on the balcony, shouting for help and asking neighbors to bring a ladder.
Fatal Jump from Terrace
Before any help could reach her, a portion of the wooden structure gave way under the pressure. Rizvi jumped from the roof to save herself, sustaining critical head injuries in the fall. She died on the spot, leaving behind a family in shock and mourning.
Family Members' Escape
Meanwhile, her husband Syed Ammar Rizvi displayed remarkable courage. He managed to break a window grill and rescue their daughter from the burning house. In the process, he suffered severe burn injuries that required immediate medical attention. Authorities admitted him to PGI for treatment.
The couple's son Zorahan managed to escape the blaze unharmed. The family's preparations for a joyful departure turned into a scene of tragedy and loss that will haunt them forever.
Police continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the fire. The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly routine activities can turn dangerous, especially when combined with flammable materials in residential spaces.
