The city crime branch in Ahmedabad on Thursday arrested a 31-year-old man who had been evading arrest for nearly two years in connection with a murder case registered at the Vatva police station.
Details of the Arrest
The accused, identified as Jayrajsinh Chauhan, was wanted in an offence registered in 2024 under sections related to murder, robbery, assault, and criminal intimidation. Police officials stated that Chauhan had been successfully avoiding capture since the case was filed, despite numerous efforts to locate him.
Long Criminal History
According to law enforcement sources, Chauhan has an extensive criminal record, with involvement in over 20 offences across various police stations. His criminal history includes cases of assault, attempt to murder, and prohibition-related violations. Notably, he had been previously arrested in a murder case and had served jail time before being released on bail.
How the Arrest Was Made
Acting on a specific tip-off, the crime branch tracked Chauhan to the Nikol-Kathwada Road area, where he was detained from a public place. He was subsequently handed over to the Vatva police for further legal proceedings.
Police sources added that Chauhan had also been detained under preventive detention laws in the past and had been lodged in jails in different cities. Officials confirmed that with his arrest, further investigation into the Vatva case will continue, including verification of his role and possible links with other accused persons involved in the offence.
