Manipur Bomb Attack Claims Lives of Two Innocent Children, Reopens Old Wounds
A devastating bomb attack in Manipur has resulted in the tragic deaths of two young children, casting a dark shadow over the state's fragile peace process. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in Tronglaobi, a Meitei-inhabited area located near the Kuki-dominated district of Churachandpur.

The victims were a five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister, who were sleeping peacefully with their mother when an explosive device tore through their room. Both children succumbed to their injuries, while their mother sustained serious wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital. Preliminary reports indicate that the explosive was fired from a rocket launcher, suggesting the involvement of armed groups possessing such weaponry.
The father of the children serves as a soldier in a paramilitary force, adding another layer of tragedy to this senseless act of violence. The family belongs to the Meitei community, which has been at the center of ethnic tensions in Manipur.
Community Outrage and Condemnation
The Manipuri community residing in Kolkata has expressed profound grief and outrage over this brutal attack. Rojit Keisham, the general secretary of Manipuri in Kolkata (MIK), a prominent community organization, voiced the collective anguish of the diaspora.
"What was the fault of these two innocent children that they had to be killed? They were sleeping safely in their mother's arms, inside their own home. We believed peace was gradually returning to Manipur, but this attack appears to be the work of elements determined to keep the state in turmoil until it is completely torn apart. We vehemently condemn this cruel and uncivilized act," Keisham stated.
Renewed Unrest and Government Response
In response to the attack, authorities have imposed curfews in several districts of Manipur, while protests have erupted in valley districts, reviving familiar scenes of unrest that the state has been struggling to overcome. The incident has opened old wounds, disrupting the slow healing process that had begun in recent months.
MIK has alleged the involvement of armed Kuki militants in the attack, though various Kuki organizations have strongly refuted these charges. Investigating agencies are actively working to establish the perpetrators and the precise motive behind this heinous act.

Keisham further appealed to both the state and central governments to intensify their efforts to restore lasting peace in Manipur.
