Manipur Child Rights Commission Voices Grave Concern Over Escalating Violence Against Children
The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) on Wednesday expressed profound anguish and grave concern regarding recent incidents of violence that have directly impacted children across the state. The commission highlighted specific, harrowing cases that underscore a deeply troubling trend.
Disturbing Incidents Highlighted by the Commission
In an official statement, Commission Chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar pointed to two particularly horrific events. The first involves the alleged rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl who was internally displaced from Moreh. The second incident is a terror attack that occurred on Tuesday in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, which claimed the lives of two young siblings: a 4-month-old infant girl and her 5-year-old brother.
"These incidents reflect a disturbing and unacceptable escalation of violence, where women and children are increasingly becoming the primary victims of the ongoing conflict," Pradipkumar stated emphatically. He declared that such acts represent severe violations of both child rights and fundamental human rights as enshrined in the Constitution of India and other relevant legal frameworks.
Urgent Calls for Action and Accountability
In response to these developments, the MCPCR has issued a strong appeal to the state government and all relevant authorities. The commission's demands are clear and immediate:
- Conduct prompt, impartial, and time-bound investigations into all incidents of violence against children.
- Ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice without any delay.
- Strengthen security measures in relief camps and other vulnerable areas to better protect children and civilians.
- Activate and reinforce comprehensive child protection mechanisms, including providing immediate psychosocial care, trauma counselling, and rehabilitation support for affected children and their families.
- Ensure strict accountability for all agencies tasked with civilian protection, especially in conflict-affected and high-risk zones.
Pradipkumar reiterated that the protection of children is an absolute, non-negotiable priority. "The state bears a profound constitutional and moral responsibility to guarantee that every child can live in safety, with dignity, and with the full protection of their fundamental right to life," he asserted.
