Meghalaya CM Attends Suvendu Adhikari’s Swearing-In Ceremony in Kolkata

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday. The event took place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, marking a significant political shift in the state. Sangma, who also serves as the president of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), extended his congratulations to Adhikari, the first BJP chief minister of West Bengal.

Best Wishes for a New Political Era

In a social media post, Conrad Sangma expressed his best wishes, stating: “Best wishes to Shri Suvendu Adhikari ji on being sworn-in as the chief minister of West Bengal. May this new political era in West Bengal be marked with never before seen progress. My best wishes to him and his cabinet.” Sangma heads the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government 2.0, a coalition that includes the NPP and other regional parties.

Significance of the Event

The swearing-in ceremony drew leaders from across the NDA, highlighting the alliance’s unity. Suvendu Adhikari, a former Trinamool Congress leader, joined the BJP ahead of the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections and led the party to a strong performance, winning 77 seats. His elevation as chief minister marks a new chapter for the BJP in West Bengal, a state long dominated by the Trinamool Congress.
