What to Do If Your Name is Deleted from the Final SIR Electoral Roll
The Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is nearing completion, with final rolls set for publication starting Saturday, February 14, 2026. This exercise, conducted in nine states and three Union Territories, involves preparing fresh rolls rather than just updates, marking a shift from the usual Special Summary Revision (SSR).
Publication Schedule for Final Electoral Rolls
After multiple extensions, the final electoral rolls will be released on specific dates:
- February 14: Rajasthan and Puducherry
- February 17: Tamil Nadu and Gujarat
- February 21: Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Goa
- February 23: Madhya Pradesh
- February 28: West Bengal
- April 10: Uttar Pradesh
Residents of these areas should verify their inclusion to ensure voting eligibility.
How to Check Your Name on the Final Electoral Roll
If your name appeared on the draft SIR roll published in December or January, confirm its presence in the final version. Two primary methods are available:
If You Have an EPIC Number: Visit electoralsearch.eci.gov.in after your state's final roll publication. Search using your Electors' Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number, linked phone number, or personal details like name and relative's name. A successful result confirms your registration.
If You Don't Have an EPIC Number: Go to voters.eci.gov.in and select "download electoral roll." Choose your state, set the revision year to 2026, and select SIR final roll as the type. Then, pick your district, assembly constituency, and polling booth to manually search for your name. This process is more time-consuming but essential without an EPIC number. These options are also accessible via the EC's ECINET app.
Steps to Take If Your Name is Not on the Electoral Roll
If your name was on the draft roll but omitted from the final version, you have recourse through appeals and fresh registration:
- Appeal to the District Election Officer (DEO): File an appeal within 15 days of the final roll's publication. The DEO, typically the District Magistrate, will review your case.
- Appeal to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO): If dissatisfied with the DEO's decision, appeal to the state's CEO within 15 days. Submit appeals online at voters.eci.gov.in or contact officials like Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), whose details are available on electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.
- Form 6 Registration: If appeals fail and you meet eligibility criteria (citizenship, age 18+, ordinary residency), apply afresh using Form 6. Submit it via the ECINET portal, app, or in person to a BLO or ERO. In election-bound states, submit Form 6 up to 10 days before the nomination deadline to vote.
The SIR initiative, launched in October 2025 after a pilot in Bihar, aims to enhance electoral accuracy nationwide. Voters are encouraged to act promptly to secure their voting rights.
