Mizoram MP Advocates for Central Support to Build Flyovers in Aizawl
In a significant parliamentary appeal, K Vanlalvena, the sole Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram, has urged the central government to allocate funds for the construction of flyover bridges in Aizawl. This initiative aims to address the persistent and severe vehicular traffic congestion plaguing the capital city.
Parliamentary Appeal During Zero Hour
Speaking during the Zero Hour session on Tuesday, Vanlalvena highlighted the unique challenges faced by Aizawl due to its hilly terrain. He explained that the city's roads are exceptionally narrow, leading to continuous traffic snarls that disrupt daily life. The MP emphasized that these jams significantly impact commuters, including office workers, students, and teachers, often causing delays in reaching their destinations.
Vanlalvena further noted that the unrelenting traffic congestion has disrupted normal activities and hindered developmental progress in Aizawl. He argued that if the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) can fund flyover projects in wealthier states, similar support should be extended to cities in less affluent regions like Mizoram.
Broader Implications and Call for Equity
The appeal underscores a growing need for infrastructure investment in northeastern states to improve urban mobility and quality of life. Vanlalvena's call for equitable distribution of central resources reflects broader concerns about regional development disparities. As traffic woes continue to affect Aizawl's residents and economy, this proposal seeks to foster sustainable urban growth through targeted governmental intervention.
