Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Takes Surprise Metro Ride for Election Campaign
In a striking move ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Chief Minister M K Stalin made an unexpected appearance on the Chennai Metro on Friday. He traveled from Chennai Central to DMS station, transforming a routine commute into a dynamic public outreach effort as part of his election campaign.
Engaging with Commuters and Seeking Support
During the journey, the DMK chief actively interacted with passengers, speaking to daily commuters and soliciting support for his party. This initiative turned the metro ride into a vibrant platform for connecting with voters, highlighting his grassroots approach in the lead-up to the polls.
Stalin Shares Experience on Social Media
Sharing a video of the ride on X, Stalin described the experience as "a journey filled with people's affection." He reflected on his instrumental role in shaping the metro project during his tenure as deputy chief minister, noting that he traveled to Japan to secure funding support from JICA for its development.
He emphasized the success of the first phase, which connects key routes such as Wimco Nagar to the airport and Central to St Thomas Mount, facilitating millions of journeys. Stalin added that the second phase of expansion is progressing rapidly and promised that upon completion, Chennai would become one of the cities with the longest metro connectivity in India. "Let our dream of developing Chennai succeed," he stated.
Intensified Campaign Efforts
In an earlier post, Stalin mentioned that he interacted with morning commuters and appealed for votes for the DMK-led alliance before heading to other campaign locations. This metro ride is part of his intensified grassroots outreach, as he contests from the Kolathur constituency.
Earlier this week, he conducted a morning walk in Sirkazhi, where he engaged with residents, shared tea at a local shop, and sought support. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin campaigned in Chennai's Triplicane constituency, adding to the party's efforts.
Election Context and Key Contests
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4. The main contest is between the DMK-led alliance and the NDA bloc led by AIADMK and BJP. Additionally, actor-turned-politician Vijay's entry is expected to introduce a third dimension to the race, making the electoral landscape more competitive.
