MLA Rajeshwar Singh Declares Politics the Toughest Form of Management
In a compelling address that drew direct parallels between corporate boardrooms and public administration, Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Friday characterized politics as the most demanding and complex form of management. The statement was made during an interactive session with MBA students, research scholars, faculty members, and outreach educators at the Leaders' Express event.
Platform for Leadership Dialogue
The session was organized under Manfest–Varchasva, the annual flagship festival of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow. It evolved into a focused and insightful discussion on how core management principles are applied in real-world governance and the monumental task of nation-building. Singh praised the academic environment and rigorous training provided by IIM Lucknow, emphasizing its role in shaping responsible, forward-thinking leaders rather than merely conferring degrees.
He highlighted the institution's prestigious standing, citing its consistent performance in national and global rankings. This includes a top-5 position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, a high standing among all Indian Institutes of Management, a strong global presence in the Financial Times Masters in Management rankings, and the coveted triple crown accreditations—all clear indicators of institutional excellence and global recognition.
The 24x7 Reality of a Legislator's Role
Responding to questions from the engaged audience, Singh provided a granular look into the life of an MLA. He described the role as one of continuous crisis management, meticulous execution oversight, and relentless stakeholder engagement, often operating on a 24×7 basis without respite.
The scale of responsibility is vast. An MLA must coordinate development works across a staggering 42 different government departments. They are tasked with monitoring the implementation of over 100 central and state-sponsored welfare schemes to ensure efficacy and reach. Furthermore, a significant part of the duty involves personally addressing thousands of public grievances every year, utilizing both physical outreach and digital platforms to connect with constituents.
Call for Inclusive Growth and Future Preparedness
Shifting the discussion to broader economic themes, Singh pointed to the persistent and deep economic inequalities within society. He issued a strong appeal to the future managers and leaders in the room, urging them to design and implement strategies that ensure developmental benefits percolate down to the very lowest strata of society, leaving no one behind.
Speaking on future readiness, the MLA underlined several critical areas:
- Digital Education: Emphasizing the need for tech-enabled learning environments.
- Youth Skilling: Preparing the younger generation for the evolving job market.
- Technological Infrastructure: Citing ongoing initiatives in Uttar Pradesh, such as the deployment of smart classrooms, ICT labs, and the large-scale distribution of laptops and tablets to students.
He also sounded a note of caution regarding the accelerating impact of artificial intelligence on the employment landscape. Singh stressed the imperative for continuous reskilling and upskilling to help the workforce adapt and thrive amidst technological disruption, framing it as a key management challenge for both the public and private sectors.
