PM Modi's Sharp Attack on Congress After Bihar Election Triumph
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during his victory speech following the NDA's sweeping success in the Bihar assembly elections. In a strongly worded address to BJP supporters on Friday, the Prime Minister accused the Grand Old Party of engaging in destructive negative politics and coined a new acronym for them - MMC or Muslim League-Maoist Congress.
The 'MMC' Remark and Congress's Identity Crisis
PM Modi stated that the Congress has completely lost its original identity and has transformed into an alliance of extremist ideologies. "Today, the Congress has become the Muslim League-Maoist Congress, that is, MMC. The kind of negative politics that the party's leaders are engaged in has created the possibility of another major division in the Congress!" the Prime Minister declared in his social media post accompanying the speech.
The Prime Minister elaborated that Congress has been reduced to a party that only knows how to make baseless allegations rather than presenting any positive vision for the nation. He specifically mentioned their 'vote chori' (vote theft) claims and accusations against Election Commission officials as examples of their negative approach.
Congress's Declining Political Relevance
PM Modi highlighted the Congress party's diminishing presence across India, pointing out several concerning statistics for the opposition party. The Congress hasn't crossed the three-digit mark in the last three Lok Sabha elections, indicating a steady decline in national popularity.
The Prime Minister provided a stark picture of Congress's political exile from several key states:
- 35 years out of power in Bihar
- 30 years in Gujarat
- Nearly 4 decades in Uttar Pradesh
- 5 decades in West Bengal
According to PM Modi, the Congress ideology has shrunk to merely opposing everything without offering constructive alternatives. "They will raise slogans like 'chowkidaar chor hai', waste Parliament's time, attack every institution, question EVMs, allege 'vote chori', accuse ECI officials, divide people on religious lines, and promote the agenda of the enemies of the nation," he stated.
Context: Bihar Election Results and Rahul Gandhi's Allegations
The Prime Minister's comments came in response to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's recent allegations of vote fraud during the Bihar election campaign. Gandhi had claimed there were hundreds of instances of fake votes being cast in favor of the BJP in Haryana and Maharashtra, and accused Election Commission officials of collaborating with the ruling party.
These allegations were made despite the NDA's spectacular victory in Bihar, winning 202 seats in the 243-member assembly. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, while alliance partner JD(U) secured 85 seats.
In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan alliance of Congress, RJD, and Left parties managed to win only 35 seats collectively. The Congress was particularly humiliated, reduced to just 6 seats, while the RJD secured 25 seats.
Political analysts see PM Modi's sharp attack as part of a broader strategy to further marginalize the Congress ahead of upcoming state elections and the 2024 general elections. The 'MMC' terminology is expected to become a recurring theme in BJP's political discourse against the opposition party.
