PM Modi Launches Scathing Attack on TMC Over Women's Reservation Bill in Bengal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his political offensive against the Trinamool Congress during a whirlwind campaign tour across West Bengal on Sunday. Addressing four high-energy rallies in just six hours, Modi declared that the state's "mothers and sisters" would deliver severe punishment to TMC for obstructing the women's reservation bill.
Accusations of Conspiracy Against Women's Rights
Speaking to enthusiastic crowds in Bankura's Barjora, Purulia, Jhargram, and Midnapore ahead of the April 23 assembly poll phase, Modi accused both TMC and Congress of "conspiring" against women's political empowerment. "Women's welfare is Modi's guarantee," the Prime Minister asserted, directly labeling TMC as "maa virodhi" or opposed to mothers.
Modi claimed that Trinamool has betrayed Bengal's daughters who had hoped for the 33% reservation to be implemented starting in 2029. "I tried to implement that reservation," Modi stated, emphasizing that increased female representation in legislatures would empower women to advocate for their rights more effectively.
The Prime Minister suggested that TMC fears accountability from women legislators, particularly those from villages and districts who might expose the party's alleged misdeeds. He further alleged that Trinamool "connived with Congress" to block necessary amendments to advance women's political participation.
Welfare Promises and Campaign Pit Stop
During his campaign marathon, Modi made a brief but notable stop at a jhalmuri shop in Jhargram, creating viral moments online as BJP worked to establish last-mile voter connections. The Prime Minister outlined several welfare commitments specifically targeting women, including:
- Rs 21,000 financial support for pregnant women
- Additional Rs 5,000 assistance following childbirth
- Free cervical cancer vaccination programs
- Substantially discounted medicines through Jan Aushadhi outlets
- Annual Rs 36,000 support for women
- Free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in government hospitals
- Accessible dialysis services in public healthcare facilities
Constitutional Concerns and Identity Warnings
Modi raised serious constitutional objections against Trinamool's policies, accusing the party of pursuing religion-based reservation systems. "Muslims are being brought within the ambit of reservation for other backward classes. This is against the Constitution," the Prime Minister asserted during his rallies.
He issued stark warnings about "infiltration" threats, suggesting that Bengal risks losing its cultural identity under current leadership. "Trinamool's agenda is dangerous," Modi cautioned. "It wants to establish a government of infiltrators, which will protect the religion and language of infiltrators."
Historical Parallels and Tribal Representation
Targeting TMC's tribal outreach efforts, Modi drew historical parallels, alleging the party is employing tactics similar to those used by "Nehru to defeat Babasaheb Ambedkar." The Prime Minister highlighted BJP's record on tribal representation, noting that the party nominated India's first tribal woman President.
"Trinamool put up a candidate against her," Modi recalled. "They played a game to prevent a tribal woman from becoming President." He further accused TMC of neglecting tribal districts and allowing land to be usurped by "syndicates," contrasting this with BJP's purported commitment to tribal development and representation.
The Prime Minister's aggressive campaign rhetoric signals an intense final push in West Bengal's assembly elections, with women's rights, constitutional integrity, and regional identity emerging as central battle lines in the political contest.
