Haveri: MP Basavaraj Bommai stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi firmly believes the Vishwakarma community plays a fundamental role in nation-building and that the time has come for them to receive the respect and recognition they deserve.
The former Chief Minister of Karnataka was speaking at the Sri Sanganabasava Mangala Bhavan in Shiggaon town, Haveri district, on Sunday. He was inaugurating the third anniversary celebrations of the Haveri District Vishwakarma Employees Welfare Association.
Bommai emphasized that in today's society, developing foundational knowledge in education and computer-based artificial intelligence is essential for nation-building. He expressed confidence that the traditional skills of the Vishwakarma community would gain global recognition.
He noted that the unique combination of form, knowledge, perseverance, skill, and concentration defines the Vishwakarma spirit. Referring to history, he said this spirit was evident in the evolution of early humans—from hunting and discovering fire to understanding food systems, building houses, and establishing villages.
In the computer age, Bommai added, the original concepts of the Vishwakarmas have evolved into artificial intelligence. He remarked that while creators design and construct structures like temples, recognition often goes to others. Once a temple is completed and consecrated, the builders fade into the background while owners claim credit. However, he said, the earth and such creations endure, making the sculptors and laborers who built them eternal.
He urged the community not to belittle themselves and acknowledged that although Vishwakarmas have contributed significantly to society, they have remained largely unrecognized. Under the theme 'good times are coming,' he expressed confidence that the community would soon receive its due recognition. Pontiffs of various religious institutions and other leaders were present at the event.
