Berhampur: A monkey that had triggered panic in Nistipur village under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district after attacking 10 villagers since Monday evening, got electrocuted on Tuesday afternoon. The animal died after coming into contact with a live wire in the village, said Berhampur divisional forest officer Sunny Khokkar. At least six injured persons, aged between 17 and 50 years, visited Adapada community health centre on Tuesday for treatment and were discharged.
Forest Department Response
Forest officials earlier made efforts to capture the monkey and sought assistance from the Paralakhemundi DFO to send a rapid response team with tranquillisers to capture the animal. “Their condition was not serious. No fresh case of monkey bite or attack was reported,” said Bahana Das, medical officer, Adapada CHC. Locals alleged the monkey turned aggressive and attacked without provocation.
