Nagpur Local Bodies Bypoll: Over 850 Electors to Vote for Council Seat
Nagpur Local Bodies Bypoll: Over 850 Electors to Vote

The electorate for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council by-election from the Nagpur Local Authorities' Constituency is expected to comprise over 850 elected representatives from 32 local self-government bodies across the district. The district administration recently published the draft electoral roll and polling station list on May 22, providing an eight-day window for scrutiny, corrections, and objections.

Composition of Electorate

The 32 local self-government bodies include the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), municipal councils, nagar panchayats, parishads, and cantonment boards. According to the draft electoral roll, 150 electors are from the NMC city limits, while the majority of the electorate comprises elected representatives from rural local bodies.

Reason for Bypoll

The bypoll was necessitated after revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule resigned from the Legislative Council following his election to the state assembly. The winning candidate will serve the remainder of the term until January 1, 2028.
