Nagpur: Pre-monsoon showers continued to drench the city for the second consecutive day on Saturday, bringing further relief from the heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity on Sunday as well.
Pleasant Weather After Overnight Rain
The weather remained pleasant throughout the day following overnight rain and gusty winds. Nagpur recorded 32 mm rainfall during the 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Saturday, followed by another 5 mm till 5.30pm.
Temperature Drop
The showers led to a noticeable drop in temperatures. The maximum temperature settled at 38.2°C, nearly 3 degrees lower than the previous day and 1.5 degrees below normal, while the minimum dipped to 21.8°C, more than 6 degrees below Friday's reading and 5.3 degrees below normal.
Rainfall Across Vidarbha
Rainfall was also reported from several parts of Vidarbha. Akola received 12.6 mm rain, Chandrapur 12 mm, Wardha 4.6 mm and Bramhapuri 4 mm during the 24-hour period ending Saturday morning. Besides Nagpur, additional evening showers were also recorded in Wardha (14 mm), Bhandara (12 mm), Brahmapuri (3 mm), and Amravati (2 mm).
Some Districts Still Hot
Despite the cooling effect of the rains, some districts continued to experience high temperatures. Yavatmal remained the hottest place in Vidarbha at 42.4°C, followed by Washim at 41.8°C and Wardha at 41.5°C.
Meteorologists' Explanation
Meteorologists attributed the changing weather to moisture incursion and favourable atmospheric conditions. They said pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity is likely to persist across Vidarbha over the next couple of days, bringing further respite from the heat.
