Mumbai: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has voiced his support for women's reservation, growth-led welfare, and a higher birth rate, emphasizing that India must collectively address its structural challenges.
Speaking at The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence, Naidu argued that reserving seats for women is the most effective way to enhance their political participation. He dismissed concerns that delimitation would disadvantage southern states, asserting that any increase in seats would be applied proportionately across the country.
On economic matters, Naidu cautioned against relying solely on borrowing and freebies for welfare. He stressed that governments must first generate wealth through reforms, investment, and business growth to ensure sustainable welfare programs.
The Chief Minister also called for a reevaluation of India's population policy. He urged families to have at least two children to preserve the nation's demographic advantage, warning that declining birth rates could pose long-term challenges.
