Lucknow: Newly appointed full-time Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, Rajeev Krishna, on Sunday expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the state's police force. He pledged to further strengthen the government's zero-tolerance policy towards crime and enhance focus on public safety.
Gratitude and Commitment
In a post on X following his appointment, Krishna thanked the Chief Minister for the confidence reposed in him and said he would work under his guidance to make law and order more robust. He stated that strengthening the state's policy of "zero tolerance towards crime" would remain a key priority during his tenure. He also emphasized his commitment to ensuring effective law enforcement, women's safety, public security, and enhancing citizens' trust in the police.
"Under the guidance and trust of the Chief Minister, I am committed to making the zero-tolerance policy against crime even more effective and to prioritising law and order, women's safety, public safety and public confidence," he stated on X.
Reassurance on Public Safety
Krishna assured residents that Uttar Pradesh Police would continue to work with dedication and professionalism to ensure the safety and security of the state's citizens. Addressing recent incidents of crime, Krishna said the police force treats every criminal incident as a challenge. "We first try to prevent crimes through patrolling, foot patrols and the 112-emergency response network. However, if an incident occurs, our officers immediately respond and take the strictest legal action against the offenders," he said.
Road Safety Initiatives
Krishna also highlighted the state's "Zero Fatality District" programme aimed at reducing road accident deaths. He said CM Yogi Adityanath has consistently shown concern over road safety and believes that many accident-related deaths are preventable. "Many road fatalities occur because of negligence, violation of traffic rules, or lack of proper safety measures. The Zero Fatality District initiative has created a structured framework across the state, down to the police station level, to address these issues," he explained.
Cybercrime Challenges
The DGP said cybercrime remains one of the biggest emerging challenges due to the rapid increase in digital and electronic transactions following the pandemic. Krishna said the Union Home Ministry and the Uttar Pradesh government have established systems to tackle cybercrime, and the state police has systematically trained personnel at all levels to respond effectively. "UP is now among the leading states in freezing money siphoned off through cyber frauds. We are moving beyond merely freezing funds and are strengthening investigations and recovery mechanisms so that victims can get their money back more effectively," he added.
This comprehensive approach underscores the new DGP's focus on preventive measures, swift response, and technological adaptation to ensure a safer Uttar Pradesh.
