Nitin Nabin: From Father's Death to BJP President, an 'Accidental' Journey

BJP President Nitin Nabin Reflects on His 'Accidental' Political Journey

Patna: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday reiterated his self-description as an "accidental politician," emphasizing that his entry into public life was triggered solely by the untimely death of his father in 2006. Speaking at a felicitation event organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Kayasth Mahasabha (ABKM) at Sahaya Sadan in Patna, Nabin shared poignant memories of his political origins and ongoing community connections.

A Political Path Forged by Personal Loss

"My father, former BJP MLA from the Patna West assembly constituency Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha, passed away in 2006, and I became an MLA that very same year," Nabin recounted. He highlighted the profound personal transition, noting that his political career began not from ambition but from circumstance, following his father's demise. This candid admission underscores the unexpected nature of his rise within the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Gratitude to the Kayasth Community for Early Support

Nabin expressed deep appreciation for the ABKM, crediting the organization with providing his first inter-state political experience. "The ABKM sent me to participate in its Bhopal conference. Since then, I have served as an MLA four times, held a ministerial position in the state government, and now been appointed BJP national president, but it was the ABKM that gave me that initial exposure beyond Bihar," he stated. The event was specifically organized to honor Nabin following his elevation to the party's top post on January 20.

Humility and Unity: Core Values Emphasized

Despite his significant achievements, Nabin stressed that success has not led to arrogance. "If all this is success, it has not made me arrogant. Like my father used to think and practice, I also believe that everyone is for me, and I am for everyone. One primary and basic hallmark of the people of Bihar is that they, by and large, are not arrogant," he added, linking his personal ethos to broader regional characteristics.

He also issued a heartfelt appeal for unity among members of the Kayastha community. "We call ourselves part of the 'buddhijivi' (intellectual) community, but we must unite in the interest of the community and society at large," Nabin urged, highlighting the importance of collective action for social progress.

Community Pride and Honors

Sarita Sinha, daughter of former Patna mayor K N Sahaya, echoed sentiments of pride during the event. "It truly is a proud moment for us and also for the ABKM that Nabin has become the BJP president," she remarked. Former BJP MLA Rashmi Verma added, "We feel honored in felicitating Nabin," reflecting the widespread respect and admiration within the community for his accomplishments.

Nitin Nabin's journey from an "accidental" entry into politics to leading one of India's major political parties showcases a narrative of resilience, community support, and unwavering humility, rooted in the values of Bihar and his familial legacy.
