In a dramatic turn of events in the Bihar Assembly, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was forced to resign by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Yadav made the accusation while speaking during a debate, claiming that Kumar had no choice but to step down under pressure from the BJP leadership.
Tejashwi Yadav's Allegations
Yadav, who is also the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), stated that the BJP had been conspiring to remove Kumar from power for some time. He said, "Nitish Kumar was not willing to resign, but the BJP forced him to give up the post of Chief Minister. This is a clear example of how the BJP operates in coalition governments."
The RJD leader further claimed that the BJP had been threatening Kumar with legal action and other measures if he did not comply with their demands. "The BJP has no respect for democratic norms. They wanted to install their own Chief Minister in Bihar, and they succeeded through coercion," Yadav added.
BJP's Response
The BJP has denied all allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. Senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, said, "Tejashwi Yadav is spreading lies to cover up his own failures. Nitish Kumar resigned voluntarily because he realized he could not continue with the current coalition."
Choudhary also accused Yadav of trying to destabilize the government. "The RJD is frustrated because they lost power. They are now making false accusations to create confusion," he added.
Political Fallout
The resignation of Nitish Kumar has sent shockwaves through Bihar's political landscape. Kumar had been the Chief Minister for several terms and was seen as a key figure in the state's politics. His resignation has led to speculation about the future of the coalition government and the possibility of early elections.
Political analysts believe that the BJP may now try to form a government with the support of other parties. However, the RJD has claimed that they have the numbers to stake a claim to form the government. "We are ready to form a government that will work for the people of Bihar," Yadav said.
Reactions from Other Parties
Other political parties in Bihar have also reacted to the development. The Congress party, which is an ally of the RJD, has supported Yadav's allegations. Congress leader in Bihar, Madan Mohan Jha, said, "The BJP has a history of destabilizing governments. This is another example of their undemocratic behavior."
On the other hand, the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), which was led by Kumar, has remained silent. Party leaders have refused to comment on the allegations, saying that they are still assessing the situation.
The political crisis in Bihar is far from over, with both the BJP and the RJD claiming the right to form the next government. The coming days are likely to see intense political maneuvering as parties try to secure their positions.
