Noida Launches Residential Verification Camps for Electoral Roll Corrections

District authorities in Noida have initiated a targeted effort to address electoral roll discrepancies by organizing special verification camps in residential localities. This move comes in response to hundreds of voters being marked as "unmapped" under the Summary Revision of electoral rolls, with a particular focus on easing the correction process for senior citizens and residents in affected areas.

Addressing Large-Scale Voter Discrepancies

Officials have identified specific residential areas where more than 100 voters have received verification notices as priority locations for these camps. Among the first localities selected for this initiative are Eldeco Utopia society and Sector 15A, where authorities will conduct hearings and document verification closer to residents' homes.

The decision follows numerous complaints from various sectors where multiple voters associated with single polling booths received summons for verification. Manish Garg, a resident of Vinayak Apartments in Sector 62, highlighted a significant case where more than 500 voters, many of them retired government employees, were issued notices.

"Many residents relocated to Noida around 2002-03 during the rapid development of housing societies in the region," Garg explained. "While their names were removed from previous electoral rolls, they were never properly added to Noida's rolls. Consequently, these individuals do not appear in the 2003 electoral records of Noida, which currently serves as the foundation for the Summary Revision process."

Official Response and Implementation Strategy

District officials have acknowledged that similar cases have emerged throughout the district. Anuj Nehra, Sub-divisional Magistrate and Electoral Registration Officer for Noida, confirmed that authorities are receiving multiple representations concerning large groups of voters from identical booths or localities who have been served notices.

District Magistrate Medha Roopam emphasized the convenience aspect of the initiative, stating that special camps would be organized within residential communities to ensure voter accessibility, particularly benefiting senior citizens who might face mobility challenges.

"Assistant electoral registration officers will be present at these campsites to verify documents required under the Summary Revision exercise," Roopam added, outlining the practical implementation of the verification process.

Scope of the Electoral Roll Challenge

Under the ongoing Summary Revision process, approximately 1.7 lakh voters in the draft electoral rolls across the district have been categorized as unmapped. This designation indicates that their details could not be successfully linked with the 2003 electoral records that serve as the baseline for current verification efforts.

Officials report that nearly 90% of these unmapped voters have already received formal notices regarding their status. The verification hearings commenced on January 21 and continue at designated centers throughout the district.

Infrastructure and Timeline for Resolution

To manage the verification workload, authorities have established twenty-one hearing centers in Ghaziabad and thirty-five in Gautam Budh Nagar. Additional electoral registration officers have been deployed to these locations to facilitate document verification and case processing.

The administration has set a clear deadline for resolving all pending cases, aiming to complete the verification process before February 27. This timeline provides a structured framework for both officials and affected voters to work toward resolution.

Supporting New Voter Registrations

In parallel with the verification efforts for existing voters, district authorities conducted booth-level camps in Noida and Ghaziabad on Saturday to facilitate fresh voter registrations. During these sessions, eligible voters were provided with Form 6 for new enrollments, along with declaration forms designed to establish proper linkage with the 2003 electoral rolls.

This comprehensive approach addresses both correction of existing records and enrollment of new voters, creating a more inclusive and accurate electoral framework for upcoming elections.
