Noida Residents Hold Vigil for Twisha Sharma

Noida: Nearly 100 residents of Gaur City 2 gathered on Sunday evening to hold a vigil for Twisha Sharma, a young woman whose family resides in the township. The residents assembled and marched while holding posters of Twisha, demanding justice for her untimely death.

Vigil Details

The vigil lasted approximately one hour and concluded at the Gaur City 2 16th Avenue temple, where a two-minute silence was observed in her memory. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, and brother, Major Harshit Sharma, were present at the gathering, visibly emotional as the community showed its support.

Background of the Case

Twisha Sharma died in her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Following her death, her mother-in-law, Giribala, and husband, Samarth Singh, were arrested on charges of harassment. The case has sparked outrage among residents, who initially felt that attempts were made to portray her death as a suicide.

Madhukar Mishra, a neighbor of the Sharma family for nearly seven years and a guest at Twisha’s wedding, expressed the community's anger. “There was a lot of anger when the case was made to look like a suicide and her family had to struggle for justice. There’s hope now after the arrests,” he said. “After her death, her father is a broken and shattered man. Her mother still breaks down in tears. I still can’t imagine that she’s no more,” Mishra added.

Call for Accountability

Another resident, Amarjeet Rathore, emphasized that Sunday’s gathering was a call for accountability and timely justice, not just in this specific case but for all similar incidents. “We stand in solidarity with her family,” he said. The vigil served as a reminder of the need for swift legal action and support for victims of harassment.

The community remains hopeful that the arrests will lead to a fair trial and justice for Twisha. Residents continue to demand that such tragedies be addressed promptly to prevent future occurrences.
