Odisha teacher dies in bike collision during survey

A 45-year-old government school teacher lost his life in a head-on collision between two motorcycles near Tikilipada under Kutra police station limits in Sundargarh district on Tuesday evening. The post-mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday before the body was handed over to the bereaved family.

Victim identified as Sanjul Kumar Talwar

The deceased has been identified as Sanjul Kumar Talwar, a resident of Kanheimunda village. He was a teacher at a government primary school in Jhirpani. According to police, Talwar was returning home after conducting a ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) survey when his motorcycle collided with a speeding bike carrying three youths coming from the opposite direction.

Injuries and medical response

Talwar sustained grievous injuries in the accident. He was immediately rushed to Kutra Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him brought dead. The three youths also suffered injuries. One of them was referred to Rourkela Govt Hospital for advanced treatment, while the other two are undergoing treatment at Kutra CHC.

On being alerted, Kutra police reached the spot and seized both motorcycles involved in the collision. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

“We have registered a case and are investigating,” said S Biswal, Sub-Inspector of Kutra police station.

Family and background

Talwar is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. The family has been devastated by the sudden loss. Neighbors and colleagues described him as a dedicated teacher who was committed to his work.

The accident highlights the risks faced by government officials conducting field surveys in rural areas. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on roads, especially during evening hours.
