Om Birla Hails Indian Students at Maharaja Agrasen College Event

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday commended Indian students for their exceptional capabilities in learning, research, and knowledge acquisition. Addressing the annual day celebrations of Maharaja Agrasen College under the University of Delhi, he stated that those who dare to dream big are the ones who achieve great things.

Event Highlights at Maharaja Agrasen College

The event, held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Auditorium, was presided over by Rajni Abbi, the director of South Campus. Several awards and scholarships were conferred on students to recognize academic and cultural excellence. Key honours included the Sanskriti Award, Sraestha Samyojak Award, Vidyotama Award, and the Best Student Award. Additionally, 13 memorial awards and scholarships were presented.

Birla on Maharaja Agrasen's Legacy

Birla highlighted the legacy of Maharaja Agrasen, after whom the college is named, describing him as a far-sighted leader whose ideals continue to inspire. He said, "When one studies Agrasen’s life and vision, it becomes evident how visionary his leadership was. He set an enduring example of what ideal governance should look like. The values associated with his rule continue to remain relevant and inspiring even in today’s democratic framework."

Academic Performance and Publications

On the occasion, college principal Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari presented the annual report for 2026, noting that over 82% of final-year students passed with a first division, reflecting the institution’s strong academic performance. Various college publications—including Gyan Sanchay, the Indian Journal of Social Enquiry, and Flora at MAC—were also released. The event was attended by a large number of faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students.

Importance of Historical Figures

Birla further emphasized the importance of drawing lessons from historical figures, stating that future generations must remain connected to the ideas and contributions of great personalities. Referring to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he said that India has been shaped by leaders who laid the foundations of its democratic system, adding that the country’s democratic structure rests on their vision and efforts.
