Owaisi Launches Scathing Attack on BJP and Congress at Dhubri Election Rally
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi delivered a fiery speech at an election rally in Motirchar, on the outskirts of Dhubri town in Assam, vigorously campaigning for candidates from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). In a direct and forceful address, Owaisi positioned the AIUDF as the sole protector of minority interests in the state, while launching broadsides against both national and regional political opponents.
"Two Sides of the Same Coin": Owaisi's Critique of National Parties
Owaisi made a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress, declaring them to be "two sides of the same coin." He argued that neither party has effectively safeguarded the rights and welfare of Assam's minority communities. To illustrate his point, he targeted former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
"Senior Gogoi was in politics for a very long time, and junior Gogoi has also served as an MP from Assam for years," Owaisi stated. "Yet, collectively, they have failed to provide protection and a lasting, positive direction for the minorities residing here."
Championing Badruddin Ajmal and the AIUDF's Role
The AIMIM leader underscored the absence of AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal from Parliament, claiming it has silenced a powerful voice for Assam's minorities. "With critical issues like the Waqf Bill being pushed forward, who will stand up to protect our rights if not a steadfast leader like Badruddin Ajmal?" Owaisi questioned the gathered crowd. He emphatically stated that the AIUDF remains the only political force genuinely committed to defending minority interests within Assam.
Targeting State Leadership and Local MPs
Owaisi did not spare the state's current leadership either. He accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of building his political career on a foundation of "fear, hatred, and the division of the social fabric." Owaisi asserted that to halt this trend, the AIUDF must be significantly strengthened in the political arena.
He also criticized Dhubri's sitting MP, Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, with sharp sarcasm. "A Congress leader talks about playing carrom in Parliament instead of vocally raising the issues that plague minorities," Owaisi remarked. "What meaningful action can one possibly expect from a leader with such priorities?"
An Emotional Appeal on Identity and Resilience
In a passionate segment of his speech, Owaisi made an emotional appeal to the voters regarding identity and belonging. "We are not Bangladeshis; we have been living here for the last 150 years and we will continue to live here," he declared. "If anyone dares to raise questions about our rightful place in this land, we will not remain silent. We know precisely how to fight for our dignity and our rights."
Campaign Details and Notable Attendees
Owaisi was actively campaigning for specific AIUDF candidates:
- Nazrul Haque, contesting from the Dhubri Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC).
- Jamser Talukdar, contesting from the Golokganj constituency.
The rally stage was shared by a host of senior AIUDF leaders. Notably, Abdur Rahman Ajmal, the son of party supremo Badruddin Ajmal, was also present on the dais alongside Owaisi, signaling strong intra-party support.
Contrasting Schedule: Amit Shah's Cancelled Visit
In a related development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was originally scheduled to address a public meeting at Ratiadah in the Golokganj area. However, his trip was abruptly cancelled due to a technical snag in his helicopter. Shah was set to campaign for BJP candidates Ashwani Roy Sarkar and Uttam Prasad, creating a contrasting political narrative in the region on the same day.
