Pakistani Terrorist Neutralized in Uri as Security Forces Thwart Infiltration Attempt

In a significant counterterrorism operation, Indian security forces successfully eliminated a Pakistani terrorist along the Line of Control in the Uri sector. The infiltration bid was foiled on the intervening night of March 14 and 15, 2026, following specific intelligence inputs from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Joint Operation Launched Based on Intelligence

The Army's Chinar Corps, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated 'Operation DIGGI-2' after receiving actionable intelligence about an infiltration attempt in the Buchhar area of Uri sector, Baramulla district. Alert troops deployed along the LoC detected suspicious movement and swiftly engaged the infiltrators.

During the operation, troops spotted a terrorist moving through thick vegetation and challenged him, leading to an exchange of fire. The terrorist, identified as Pakistani, was eliminated in the ensuing confrontation. From the site, security forces recovered war-like stores, including an AK rifle, pistols, and a substantial quantity of ammunition.

Commendation from Northern Command Leadership

Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, praised the troops of the Chinar Corps for their vigilance and effectiveness in foiling the infiltration attempt. He reiterated the Army's commitment to maintaining a terror-free environment in Jammu and Kashmir.

This operation underscores the heightened security measures in the region, as Lt Gen Sharma had recently visited Srinagar and Nagrota on March 11 to review operational readiness. During his visit, he emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts, multi-domain surveillance, and real-time intelligence integration to sustain peace and stability.

Context of Repeated Infiltration Attempts

Security forces have reported that terror groups from across the border are persistently attempting to push infiltrators into Indian territory. In recent weeks, multiple bids have been thwarted in districts such as Rajouri and Poonch.

  • On March 4, the Army foiled an infiltration attempt in the Bhimber Gali area of Poonch.
  • Another bid was prevented on February 19 in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri.
  • Additionally, there have been numerous drone sightings along the LoC and International Border, indicating ongoing surveillance challenges.

The successful operation in Uri highlights the continuous efforts of Indian security forces to safeguard national borders and combat terrorism effectively.
