Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, G Parameshwara, has expressed strong displeasure over the delay in land acquisition for the Hemavathi Express Link Canal project. He directed officials to complete the process within a month, warning that further delays would not be tolerated.
Parameshwara's Stern Warning
Speaking during a review meeting, Parameshwara said that officials were wasting time and showing a lack of interest in the project. He emphasized that the canal is crucial for irrigation and drinking water supply in the region. The Deputy CM stressed that any negligence in executing the project would lead to strict action against responsible officers.
Project Background
The Hemavathi Express Link Canal is a key infrastructure project aimed at transferring water from the Hemavathi River to drought-prone areas. The project has been pending for years due to land acquisition issues and administrative hurdles. Parameshwara's intervention is expected to expedite the process.
Directives to Officials
Parameshwara instructed the district administration and the water resources department to coordinate effectively and resolve all pending issues. He also asked for a detailed timeline for the remaining work. The officials have been asked to submit a progress report within a week.
The Deputy CM's strong stance comes amid growing public demand for the completion of the canal. Local farmers and residents have been protesting for the project's early completion, citing water scarcity and crop failures.
