A tragic incident occurred early Friday morning in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden area, where a 40-year-old pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a speeding car on Ring Road, according to police reports.

Accused Driver Identified

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 19-year-old Daksh Maurya, a resident of Shalimar Bagh in northwest Delhi. The information was provided by news agency PTI.

Details of the Incident

Police stated that the victim, whose identity has not yet been established, was discovered lying unconscious in the middle of the road near the Marble Market on Ring Road, on the carriageway from Rajouri Garden towards Mayapuri.

A PCR call reporting the accident was received at Rajouri Garden police station around 3:40 am. Local police promptly arrived at the scene and found the injured man unresponsive. No identity documents were recovered from him, a senior police officer said.

The injured man was transported to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Investigation Underway

Police are making efforts to establish the deceased's identity and locate his family members. The body has been preserved at the DDU Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem.

During the investigation, the PCR caller, identified as Gulshan, informed police that he had noticed a damaged vehicle parked on the roadside approximately 250 meters from the accident site. Acting on this information, police searched the area and discovered the suspected vehicle—a golden-brown Honda City with a Delhi registration number—abandoned on the roadside. The car has been seized for forensic examination and further investigation.

An FIR has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Rajouri Garden police station.

Police are also scanning CCTV footage from Ring Road and nearby areas to reconstruct the sequence of events and ascertain the speed and movement of the vehicle before the collision.

Efforts to Apprehend the Accused

Efforts are underway to apprehend the accused. Teams have been deployed, and raids are being conducted at possible locations, the officer added.
