In a heart-wrenching incident in Satna's Prem Vihar locality, an eight-year-old Pomeranian named Sweetu died a hero while protecting her family from thieves. The small dog sensed danger late Friday night and barked relentlessly to alert the sleeping family, thwarting a burglary attempt but losing her own life.
Heroic Act in the Dead of Night
According to Nitin Yadav, the owner, a group of thieves attempted to break into his house in the City Kotwali area around 12:12 am. Sweetu, hearing suspicious noises, rushed to the rear side of the house and began barking loudly. The intruders, unable to enter, fled without stealing anything. However, the next morning, Yadav found Sweetu dead with multiple injuries.
Injuries and Evidence
Yadav recounted that Sweetu had injury marks on her leg, waist, and neck, along with strangulation marks. He believes there were at least three to four intruders. "Had they entered the house, they could have harmed us too. I live here with my wife and small daughter," he said, struggling to hold back tears.
Family's Grief
The family remained unaware of the attack during the night. It was only in the morning that Yadav realized something was wrong. "Normally she would wait for us outside the gate every morning. When I could not find her, I went searching and saw she was no more," he said. The loss feels far greater than that of a pet, as Sweetu had been a loyal companion for eight years.
Police Response
The incident has left even police personnel emotional. Yadav expressed his deepest regret: "For me, the biggest regret is that Sweetu must have been thinking I would come to save her … but I was not there when she needed me the most." CCTV cameras at the rear side of the house were not working, but front cameras captured Sweetu until she rushed to the rear side.
This tragic event highlights the bravery of a small pet who gave her life to protect her family. The family now grieves their heroic companion, remembering her as a true guardian.
