Sachin Pilot Intensifies Congress Campaign in Assam with Border Security Critique
In a significant escalation of the Congress party's electoral efforts ahead of the April 9 Assam assembly elections, senior leader Sachin Pilot launched a pointed critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday. Speaking at a rally in Silchar, Pilot questioned the BJP's management of border security and accused the party of failing to address critical public issues, despite holding power both at the central and state levels.
Rally in Barak Valley Draws Large Crowd
Addressing a substantial gathering at the Boalipar market in Hailakandi district's Algapur–Katlicherra constituency, AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot campaigned vigorously for Congress candidate Zubair Anam Mazumdar. The event, part of the intensifying political activity in Barak Valley, saw Pilot frame the upcoming election as a pivotal battle for rights and dignity, rather than a mere routine contest.
Pilot Questions Border Control and Infiltration
Taking direct aim at the issue of illegal infiltration, Pilot challenged the BJP's claims of secure borders. He posed a rhetorical question to the crowd: "If the borders are under their control, how is infiltration still taking place?" This statement resonated strongly with the audience, highlighting ongoing concerns about security and governance in the region.
Call to Action for Voters and Party Workers
Pilot, a former Union minister, urged voters to rally behind Mazumdar, whom he described as an honest and grassroots-oriented leader. He emphasized the importance of local engagement, calling on Congress workers to intensify outreach efforts by directly interacting with households and focusing on community-specific issues. This strategy aims to position Congress as a credible alternative to the ruling BJP in the ideological contest shaping up in Algapur-Katlicherra.
Election Outcome Hinges on Voter Decision
As campaigning accelerates across Assam, Pilot underscored that the final verdict will be determined by the electorate at the ballot box. The outcome in this constituency is expected to reflect broader political sentiments in Barak Valley, with Congress seeking to capitalize on perceived governance gaps under the BJP administration.
