Union Minister Piyush Goyal Accuses Tamil Nadu Government of Blocking Housing Scheme Benefits

In a sharp critique, Union Minister Piyush Goyal stated on Monday that approximately three lakh families in Tamil Nadu were deprived of benefits under the central government's housing for all scheme. He attributed this denial to the state government's failure to submit the names of eligible beneficiaries to the Union authorities.

Impact on Vulnerable Populations

Goyal emphasized that this administrative lapse has resulted in nearly 12 lakh individuals missing out on access to essential amenities. These homes were intended to include toilets, cooking gas connections, electricity, and digital connectivity, crucial for improving living standards. He directly challenged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, demanding an explanation for what he perceives as an injustice against poor families.

"I want an answer from Stalin. What does he have against those three lakh poor families who could have benefited from the Central government scheme?" Goyal questioned during a press interaction in Chennai, held alongside BJP's foundation day celebrations.

Scrutiny of Central Funds and Infrastructure Development

Goyal further probed the state's utilization of central funds, highlighting a significant increase in financial allocations over the past decade. He noted that tax devolution to Tamil Nadu has doubled in the last 10 years, while grants-in-aid have surged four-and-a-half times compared to the period from 2004 to 2014. Specifically, grants rose from about 57,000 crore to 2,50,000 crore.

"Where has this money gone?" Goyal asked, urging the state government to account for these substantial resources. He also challenged Stalin to name one high-quality infrastructure project completed under his administration, casting doubt on the state's developmental achievements.

Allegations of Corruption and Ongoing Investigations

The Union minister leveled serious allegations of corruption, particularly referencing the Jal Jeevan Mission. He disclosed that investigations are currently underway to identify those involved in potential malpractices, including examining whether the chief minister bears direct responsibility.

"We will ensure that they face the consequences of their corrupt activities," Goyal asserted, underscoring the central government's commitment to accountability.

Clarification on Language Policy and Accusations of Misinformation

Addressing the contentious language policy issue, Goyal clarified that the National Education Policy does not mandate any specific language. He accused the state government of spreading falsehoods, stating that the policy encourages native languages based on parental choice, without compulsion to teach Hindi.

"This is another lie that Stalin is repeating, hoping that people will fall for his falsehood," Goyal remarked, refuting claims of Hindi imposition and emphasizing the policy's flexibility.

Political Campaigning in Tamil Nadu

In related political developments, as many as six Union ministers, including G. Kishan Reddy, Suresh Gopi, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, campaigned across Tamil Nadu on Monday to support NDA candidates. Additionally, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Madurai to endorse Rama Sreenivasan, who is contesting from the Madurai South constituency.

This intensified campaigning underscores the high-stakes political environment in the state, with central leaders actively engaging in electoral efforts.
