Prime Minister Narendra Modi Launches Fierce Critique of West Bengal's Ruling Party
In a powerful address delivered in Haldia on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a vehement attack against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. The Prime Minister passionately urged voters to oust what he described as a "cruel" administration that he claims is hindering the state's progress while the rest of India advances forward.
Allegations of Betrayal and Corruption in Employment
PM Modi leveled serious accusations against the TMC government, stating that their treatment of Bengal's youth constitutes a betrayal so profound that "they won't be able to wash away their sins even in the next 100 years." He specifically alleged a "double betrayal" where private sector jobs are scarce and those that exist are allegedly given to "infiltrators," while government vacancies are being "looted by TMC ministers."
The Prime Minister asserted that both employment opportunities and government recruitment processes have been severely compromised under the current regime. He promised decisive action if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the state, including reopening suppressed cases related to corruption and crimes against women to ensure strict punishment for those involved.
Promises of Reform and Development
Outlining his vision for a transformed Bengal, PM Modi pledged that a BJP government would implement the 7th Pay Commission for state employees, teachers, and allied sectors. He emphasized that "government facilities will be made available to all genuine citizens, and infiltrators will not be allowed to stay in this country," drawing a clear line on citizenship issues.
Targeting the TMC's development record, Modi contrasted India's national progress with what he portrayed as Bengal's regression under the current leadership. He stressed that removing the TMC was absolutely essential to building what he termed "Viksit Bengal" or a developed Bengal.
Economic and Political Criticisms
The Prime Minister further accused the ruling party of damaging both the private sector and public recruitment processes, claiming that jobs were either not being created or were allegedly sold for money. "Investment does not come in an atmosphere of fear, but in a climate of trust that the BJP will bring in Bengal," he declared, positioning his party as the solution to the state's economic challenges.
PM Modi also criticized what he described as "religion-based reservation," alleging it was primarily aimed at consolidating vote banks rather than addressing genuine social justice concerns.
Political Context and Confidence in Change
Noting the substantial turnout at his Haldia rally despite unfavorable weather conditions, PM Modi interpreted this as evidence of a growing desire for political change across West Bengal. He specifically referenced Nandigram, where opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 assembly elections, expressing confidence that a similar outcome would occur in Bhabanipur where the two leaders are expected to face off again.
Making a compelling case for what he called a "double-engine" government, PM Modi argued that West Bengal would benefit significantly more when the central and state governments work in close coordination rather than opposition.
Focus on Fisheries and Economic Sectors
Beyond political rhetoric, the Prime Minister highlighted the central government's focused attention on the fisheries sector, promising to make West Bengal self-reliant in seafood production. He pointed to the creation of a dedicated ministry and increased budgetary support for fisherfolk as evidence of the BJP's commitment to this vital economic sector.
The rally in Haldia, which serves as a stronghold for Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, marked another significant moment in the ongoing political battle between the BJP and TMC for control of West Bengal. PM Modi's speech combined sharp criticism of the current administration with concrete promises for reform, employment generation, and economic development under BJP leadership.
