PM Modi Reaches Out to Ailing Sharad Pawar in Pune Hospital
Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally called Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) president Sharad Pawar on Monday to inquire about his health and well-being. The veteran political leader was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic, a private hospital in Pune, after being diagnosed with a significant chest infection.
Hospitalization Details and Medical Condition
The 85-year-old Rajya Sabha member was transported from his residence in Baramati, Pune district, to the medical facility on Monday afternoon. This urgent transfer occurred after he experienced concerning symptoms including breathing difficulties and a persistent cough that required immediate attention.
His daughter, Supriya Sule, provided crucial information about his treatment plan, revealing that he would need to complete a comprehensive five-day course of antibiotics to combat the infection effectively.
Medical Updates and Recovery Progress
Dr. Simon Grant, Physician and Trustee at Ruby Hall Clinic, offered reassuring news about Pawar's condition. The medical professional confirmed that the veteran politician is recovering well, with all vital signs returning to normal levels. His overall clinical condition shows steady improvement under careful medical supervision.
"As a precautionary measure, he continues to remain under observation. His treatment is being carried out strictly as per Ruby Hall Clinic's established medical protocols, and all investigations are being closely monitored," stated the official hospital release.
The medical institution emphasized that further decisions regarding treatment would depend entirely on his clinical progress. Hospital authorities specifically requested that party workers and well-wishers avoid gathering on the premises to ensure regular patient care remains uninterrupted.
Political Colleagues Provide Additional Assurance
NCP–SP leader Rohit Pawar shared further encouraging updates about Sharad Pawar's condition on Monday. "Sharad Pawar's health is very good right now. His tests have been done there. He has not been kept in the ICU. He has been kept in a private room there. He doesn't need any support there right now," Rohit Pawar informed reporters.
He added that decisions about whether Pawar would remain in Pune or potentially transfer to Mumbai would be determined after reviewing complete medical reports. "Pawar came here in a private vehicle, and everything is normal," he noted, providing additional context about the hospitalization circumstances.
Recent Political Context and Family Developments
The NCP organization suffered a devastating loss last month when party chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar's nephew, tragically died in a plane crash. Following this profound loss, Ajit Pawar's wife, Sunetra Pawar, was officially sworn in as the state's new Deputy Chief Minister.
Earlier this month, Sharad Pawar expressed satisfaction with Sunetra Pawar's appointment to the deputy chief minister position. He also addressed ongoing discussions about potential merger possibilities between the two factions that emerged after the party's division.
"I am happy that Sunetra Pawar is sworn in as Deputy CM....Merger discussions were held between Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil. CM Fadnavis was not involved in the talks. What right did he have to talk about it?" Pawar questioned regarding Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's comments on internal party matters.
He further explained, "At present, our entire focus is on taking care of everyone and moving forward together with those who are grieving. As of now, there is no discussion at all about any political decisions."
