Prime Minister Narendra Modi used social media platform X on Saturday to convey his heartfelt greetings to the citizens of Jharkhand as the state celebrated its 25th foundation day. The Prime Minister highlighted the region's rich tribal culture and its history of valiant struggles.
Honoring a Tribal Hero's Legacy
In his post, PM Modi specifically recalled the enduring legacy of Birsa Munda, a revered tribal rights leader and freedom fighter. He noted that the history of Jharkhand is replete with inspiring tales of courage, struggle, and dignity, largely shaped by figures like Munda.
"Greetings to the people of Jharkhand, a glorious land enriched with vibrant tribal culture, on its foundation day," the Prime Minister wrote. He also extended his best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of every family in the state.
A Day of Dual Significance
The state's foundation day on November 15 holds special significance as it also marks the birth anniversary of the tribal icon, Birsa Munda. Jharkhand was officially carved out of Bihar in the year 2000.
On this same day, the nation celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, which is observed across India as 'Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas' or Tribal Dignity Day. PM Modi paid separate tributes to the great freedom fighter, acknowledging his immense sacrifice.
"I offer tributes to great freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda on this 150th birth anniversary," Modi said in another X post. He stated that on the occasion of Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas, the entire nation remembers Munda's unparalleled contribution to protecting the motherland's honor.
The Immortal Story of Birsa Munda
Born in 1875 in what is present-day Jharkhand, Birsa Munda is a monumental figure in Indian history. He is widely credited with mobilizing tribal communities against British rule, challenging the empire's authority.
Munda led the famous Munda Rebellion against the British. His fierce struggle for tribal rights and self-rule established him as a powerful symbol of resistance and empowerment for indigenous communities across the country. His life was cut tragically short when he died in British custody at the young age of 25.
PM Modi emphasized that "His struggle and sacrifice against the injustice of foreign rule will continue to inspire every generation." The dual celebrations serve as a powerful reminder of Jharkhand's unique identity and the heroes who shaped its destiny.
