Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning on Monday about potential attempts by "certain elements" to exploit the ongoing conflict in West Asia to jeopardize India's internal security. The Prime Minister assured Parliament that security and law-and-order agencies are already operating at maximum vigilance to detect and prevent any malicious designs. "Whether it is coastal security, border security, cyber security, or strategic installations, the security of all is being reinforced," Modi declared while briefing the House on developments in West Asia.
Modi highlighted that security enhancements are being implemented across multiple fronts simultaneously. This comprehensive approach includes strengthening coastal surveillance to prevent unauthorized maritime entries, fortifying border defenses against infiltration attempts, and enhancing protection for critical infrastructure and strategic installations nationwide.
Home Ministry Directives on LPG Supply Chain Protection
The Home Ministry had previously issued advisories to all states and Union territories last week, mandating enhanced protection for the LPG supply chain. Authorities were instructed to ramp up security for infrastructure and personnel involved in gas distribution, monitor LPG supplies daily, and actively counter rumors in real-time to prevent public panic.
Sources revealed that states and UTs received specific guidance to take strict action against hoarding and black marketing of LPG and gas supplies. Additionally, they were directed to conduct public awareness campaigns to dispel fears and counteract false narratives about potential shortages.
Cyber Security Threats and Social Media Monitoring
Authorities have been instructed to maintain close surveillance of social media platforms and promptly remove fake news and misleading content about alleged LPG shortages. This includes taking down posts that circulate outdated or unrelated material to create artificial scarcity fears.
In a related development, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) recently uncovered a sophisticated cyber scam where fraudsters distribute fake "gas booking updates" through APK files on WhatsApp. The I4C warned that installing these malicious files can compromise smartphones and instantly drain bank accounts, advising LPG subscribers to exclusively use official booking applications.

The government's multi-layered security strategy addresses both physical and digital threats emerging from the West Asia conflict.
