Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Sunday met Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed issues relating to law and order, drug abuse, agriculture, trade and border security in the state.
Meeting Details
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Dhillon said he had a "meaningful meeting" with Shah and discussed the "day-by-day deteriorating law and order situation" and the growing drug menace in Punjab.
According to Dhillon, Shah assured him that the Centre was committed to Punjab's security, drug eradication, peace and harmony, and finding lasting solutions to the state's key issues.
Gifts and Context
Dhillon also presented Shah with a book on Maharaja Ranjit Singh and a portrait of the Sikh ruler. He took over as Punjab BJP president on June 3.
The meeting comes amid concerns over rising drug abuse and crime in Punjab, with the state government facing criticism over its handling of law and order. The BJP has been vocal about these issues, and Dhillon's meeting with Shah underscores the party's focus on Punjab's challenges.
Discussions also touched upon agriculture and trade, reflecting the state's economic concerns, and border security, given Punjab's strategic location along the Pakistan border. Shah's assurances highlight the Centre's role in addressing these multifaceted issues.
